Established August 17, 2015
Let me quickly tell you about a man named Jimmie Beller. From the first day that I stepped into the building of the congregation here in McLoud, Jimmie was one of my best friends and biggest supporters. He always had a smile on his face, was always happy to see you, and was a great encouragement.  To all visitors, Jimmie would smile and say, “Welcome home.”
He was also fighting against cancer.
The cancer Jimmie had was incurable, and I can’t tell you how many experimental treatments they tried on him to keep it at bay. But in 2015, Jimmie went on to his eternal reward. He had such an impact on our lives that there is rarely a day goes by that we don’t think about and miss our friend and brother Jimmie.
He discovered that I run the Gravel Hill church of Christ website, and absolutely loved the sheer amount of free material that is available there. In fact, he loved it so much that he allowed me to scan several books from his own library to put online. One of those books was very brittle, and I told him that I couldn’t scan it because it would destroy the book. His response was classic Jimmie Beller.  With a huge smile on his face, he said: “So, you’d destroy one book, and thousands of people can read it. I don’t see the problem.”
After his passing, his entire library was donated to me with the hope that Jimmie’s desire of spreading useful books to as many people as possible would continue. That is the purpose of the Jimmie Beller Memorial eLibrary.
Lord willing, this free eLibrary will continue to grow as we make more of his books accessible to anyone who wants to download them.

Thanks for the continued books! I’ve already used some of them in my studies.
One of my good friends, Dr. Jessie E. Mills, Jr., wanted me to find some biographies of Thomas and Alexander Campbell which tells about their years in Scotland before coming to America. I found the two documents (Seven Lights and Alexander’s visit to Scotland) on this website, but wondered if there are any others that you might know about, which you can send to me?
Alexander Campbell and Sidney Rigdon both came close to the restoration concept, but Campbell ceased at the most crucial point — completely ignoring the point of apostolic authority. That’s why the Baptists and Campbellites lost so many people to the Latter-day Saint movement.
Authority solidifies the exclusivity issue in that Christians need an authoritive chain of command. Jesus gave Peter the Keys of the Kingdom by which the apostles could bind on Heaven and Earth. Why would such keys be necessary anciently, but not today? Paul said the priesthood had been “changed,” but didn’t say how. Was it to play a role in the modern church? The Bible is silent! If baptism is an ordinance that is done on Earth and is recorded in Heaven, it stands to reason it’s somehow tied to the priesthood.
It also would explain why some Christians practiced baptism for the dead (1 Corinthians 15:29) and why apostate Catholicism linked the keys with its work for the dead. And though it corrupted the work for the dead, the concept itself survived and was falsely incorporated in the selling of indulgences. In other words, apostate Catholicism recognized that the keys were necessary to bind on Heaven and on Earth, and that they could not be jointly held with numerous sects believing different doctrines and concepts.
Sidney Rigdon, Parley Pratt and others saw this as the great failing of the Baptists and Campbellism. They agreed with many of the doctrines, but Rigdon in particular questioned Campbell’s (and the Baptists’) apostolic authority. If Campbell and others ordained others, who ordained them?
The Latter-day Saint movement appealed to many because it offered authority, and a restoration through heavenly ministrations. And though many of the Baptists and Cambellites rejected the claims of the Mormons, the issue of authority itself has never been adequately addressed. The ancient church cannot exist unless and until the Keys of the Kingdom can be traced and utilized.
It virtually begs exclusivity.
Thank you brother Cobb for the free books. God bless you.
