Last week’s Friday Freebie was so well-received that we’ve decided to do it again (and we might even make this a regular feature).
Today’s special freebie is…
The Sabbath or the Lord’s Day, Which?
By D.R. Dungan.
David Roberts Dungan was a preacher/teacher/writer in the late 1800s/early 1900s. His book on Hermeneutics is still the standard on Biblical Interpretation in most preaching schools and Christian colleges. His novel On the Rock was reprinted several times and was that generation’s Muscle and a Shovel.
Today’s free book was written to answer the question about whether the church is commanded to meet on the Sabbath or the first day of the week. Dungan approaches the topic with a level head and an open Bible, and deals with every claim that the Sabbath-keepers produced. When you finish this book, you will have no doubt as to the answer to the question: The Sabbath or the Lord’s Day?
Just like all of our other books, this one has undergone updating in spelling, correction of typos, and a complete reformatting to make it much easier on the eyes. We hope you will find it useful.

I firmly believe in and keep GOD’s 7th day sabbath. Have you ever noticed that is the only Commandment that people mess with???
If the Commandments were done away, each of the others were also done away! I don’t think so! Since Jesus’ sacrifice they now affect one’s heart & intent!
Our human IMPERFECTION at KEEPING the Commandment is what is covered & paid for, but does NOT give us license TO disobey!
Otherwise I was interested in your offer.
Sincerely,
Ginny Brown
I think we have to ask questions of course with anything we study. So… with the Sabbath. Was the Sabbath made for the Jews only? When was the Sabbath created? And why? First, we read that Adam and Eve were created on the 6th day and then the next day was the Sabbath. The Sabbath was created and hallowed at creation. Because He had rested on the 7th day, Sabbath, He blessed the ‘He hasday and sanctified it…. set it apart for holy use. He gave it to Adam and Eve as a day of rest. It was a memorial of creation and thus a sign of God’s power and His love. “He has made His wonderful works to be remembered”. The Sabbath calls our thoughts to nature. Are Adam and Eve Jews? No..so this tells me that the Sabbath was made for everyone.
We cannot do away with or change the memorial of creation any more than we can change or do away with our date of birth. Again… the Sabbath was made at creation week and is the memorial of creation… show us HIS power… His creative power, His love for HIS creation and made it a holy day. No other day of the week can do this. It IS the Lord’s day. Jesus kept it while walking this earth and taught others the same. We seem to have no problem with agreeing that it is wrong to tell lies, to steal , to covet, to commit murder and adultery, to have other gods before us, to take the name of the Lord in vain, and to make graven images and bow down to them. But… for some reason, we just do not like this Sabbath. Keeping the Sabbath and all other commands given during creation week are to be obeyed for one reason and one reason only. Love. Anything else is legalism. Also, please notice, the seal of GOD is in HIS 4th commandment: Who? God. Title? Creator Territory? Heaven and earth —the universe. God says that when He recreates this earth, everyone will come before Him to worship once again on the only day He has sanctified, His beautiful and holy Sabbath Day. Jesus came to fulfill the law. He did not come to get rid of the law. He kept the law in every respect of His life. His life is the personification of Scripture, of those 10 commands and His followers are to do the same. The majority is not always right and this is one case this is true. God tells us that most people will NOT be saved. “Wide is the gate…. narrow is the way… and few there be that find it”. May we all want to know what GOD says and do it because…. for one reason only…… because we love HIM who first loved us and gave Himself for us.
Adam and Eve were never told to observe the Sabbath. That belief is nothing more than an assumption, because the Bible never says that.
